 HISTORY

The THE ORIENTAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE formerly known as Muslim Chamber of Commerce was established on 1st October, 1932 at the inspiration of Late Sir Abdur Rahim, Hon ble Speaker, Central Assembly and it was founded by leading Muslim businessmen of Calcutta i.e. Sir Dawood Adamji, Md. Ibrahim Japanwalay, Mr. Noor Mohammad Rajabally, Mr. Abdur Razzak, Hajee Abdoal Suttar, Mr. S. M. Nauman, Mr. Ishaq Chandna and Mr. Md. Rafique. In 1956 in consonance with national thinking, the Chamber changed its name, as did some of the other chambers at that time, to The THE ORIENTAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE to promote the commercial interests of small and medium traders, exporters and industrialists. This Chamber has, throughout, served the interest of its members, who consist of small and medium traders, exporters and industrialists and has worked primarily to promote manufacturing, trading and export in the micro, small and medium sectors. Our representatives serve on several Central Govt., State Govt. and Quasi Govt. bodies using their expertise and experience to shape policies and decisions, thus making effective contributions towards various aspects of economic development. We are recognized Chamber of Commerce and duly authorized by Government of India for legalization of Export-Import documents including the issue of Certificates of Origin under Article 11 of the International Convention relating to simplification of Custom formalities.

 THE ROLE OF OCC : THE ORIENTAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

 Dissemination of relevant information to Member

  •   The Chamber regularly enlightening the member on various Government notification, Circulars, Orders, Clarifications with critical of their implications.
  •   The THE ORIENTAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE has throughout, served the interest of its members and has worked primarily to promote manufacturing, trading and export in the micro, small, and medium sector.
  •   The Chamber educating the members on current development in trade & industry
  •   The Chamber collecting useful data in areas of special interest to business people and specifying trends on the basis of the same.

 As a spokesman of trade and industries.

  •   The Chamber of Commerce act as intermediaries between the Government both at the State and Central Govt. and trade and industry
  •   The Chamber offer critical comments on the major policies of the Government (e.g. Central Budget, Railway Budget and State Budget) and point out any flows or lapses in then.
  •   The Chamber prepare a pre-budget memorandum for the preparing of the Budget for the next financial year. Such comments are highly respected by the Government.
  •   It also draw the attention of the Govt. to the problems and grievances of the individual member and try to persuade the Govt. to take remedies measures to show there problem.
  •  Representation on various Public Bodies

    The Chamber has represented its representative on several Central Govt.; State Govt.; Quasi Govt. Bodies and have been making effective contributions towards to shape policies and decisions. These include:

    •   Core Committee on West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation.
    •   Calcutta Electric Supply Consultative Committee.
    •   Minimum Wages Advisory Board
    •   West Bengal State Labour Advisory Board (SLAB)
    •   Regional Advisory Committee, Central Excise, Calcutta II Commissionerate and Calcutta-V Commissionerate.
    •   Consumer Protection Council of the State Commission.
    •   Environment & Forests Pollution Control Board
    •   Export Felicitation Cell (E.F.C)
    •   Regional Direct Taxes Advisory Committee (H.Q.-Commissioner of Income Tax, W.B) etc.

    The Chamber often releases Press Note on various important aspects of economic development.









 CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN

THE ORIENTAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE is one of the recognized Chamber of Commerce and are duly authorized by the Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India for legalization of export import documents including the issue of Certificate of Origin under Article 11 of the International Convention relating to simplification of Custom formalities.
Authentication / attestation fee is accepted in cash only.
The charges for authentication / attestation of documents are as under : Rs.40/-

 GUIDELINE FOR AUTHENTICATION OF EXPORT DOCUMENTS

THE ORIENTAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE is officially authorized by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India to issue Certificate of Origin (Non-preferential) in respect of goods exported from India. It also attests export documents like invoices, packing list, declaration, product certificate and insurance etc. as required by the member applicant for facilitating their trade activities.





 IMPORTANT POINTS FOR THE COMPANIES SUBMITTING THEIR DOCUMENTS FOR AUTHENTICATION

  •   Documents to be submitted along with request letter on Company's letter head.
  •   The authentication/attestation is carried out on the basis of an Indemnity Bond. The Bond should be provided on non-judicial stamp paper of Rs.60/-. The bond is a continuing Indemnity Bond and need not be submitted for every set of documents. The draft/format for indemnity bond is available on following link.

 FORMAT FOR AVVIDAVIT

  •   The certificate should be in the proper format (blank formats available at the Chamber's office).
  •   The certificates or other documents should be duly signed with the designation of the signatory clearly stated along with copy of commercial invoice.
  •   The company's stamp/seal should be affixed on each document.
  •   THE ORIENTAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE will retain one copy of authenticated/attested documents for its record.
  •   Sufficient space to be provided for affixing Chamber's seal and signatures of the authorized signatory.
  •   Authentication/attestation fee to be given in cash only and not by any other instruments.
  •   We require minimum 30-40 minutes to complete the processing of the documents.

 VISA RECOMENDATION

THE ORIENTAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE issues letters of recommendation to the Member Firms for issue of visa for business promotion in order to boost the export trade by visits to foreign countries. THE ORIENTAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE has been advised to obtain certain basic information before issuing the recommendation letters for issuance of visa. Member Firms are desirous to obtained letter of recommendation for issue of visa are requested to furnish the following information to THE ORIENTAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE at the time of applying.

  •   Request letter addressing to THE ORIENTAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, on the printed letterhead of the Member Firm, clearly specifying the name of the person who is seeking the visa, his / her designation in the company, his / her passport number and the country(s) to be visited.
  •   Photocopy of the passport of the person applying for the visa.
  •   Photocopies of trade enquiries / invitation letters received from the country(s) to be visited. Fee payable : 300/-
